42.8 Connecting to Multiple Remote MTAs

The default PMDF-X400 configuration generated by the PMDF-X400 configuration utility only supports connecting to a single remote X.400 MTA. Every message addressed to an X.400 recipient for delivery through PMDF-X400 will be transferred to that MTA. If the recipient is not local to the other MTA then PMDF-X400 depends on that MTA to route the message appropriately.

PMDF-X400 can be configured to interoperate with more than one remote X.400 MTA. With such a configuration, PMDF-X400 will examine the recipient X.400 address and determine which MTA should receive the message. This determination is made using a section in the standard PMDF mappings file.4 General information on the PMDF mappings file is documented in Chapter 5. Specific information on the PMDF-X400 MTA mapping is given below. Note that this mapping and the associated MTA information database are not used when PMDF-X400 is configured to connect to a single remote MTA.

Note

4 On OpenVMS, the mapping file is pointed to by the logical PMDF_MAPPING_FILE, and hence the file is normally named PMDF_TABLE:mappings.; on UNIX, this file is pointed to by the PMDF tailor file option PMDF_MAPPING_FILE and hence the file is normally named /pmdf/log/mappings .
